Gdansk Donative - 5 ducat, John II Casimir Vasa (King of Poland; 1648–1668), maker: Gerhard Rogge (fl. 1639–1657). Obverse: bust of the king with a crown, right profile, in armour, lace collar, chain with the Order of the Golden Fleece on the chest; in the chain rim the inscription 'IOAN:CASIM:D:G:REX POL.& SUEC:M:D:L.RUS.PRUS.' Reverse: panorama of the city across the river; at the top the Eye of Providence surrounded by radiant clouds; in a section the coat of arms of Gdansk held by two lions; on both sides '16-56' and below 'G-R'; legend: '5 EX AURO SOLIDO CIVITAS GEDANENSIS FIERI FECIT, 1656.' Poland, Gdansk; coin; diameter 47–47.3 mm; weight 18.32 g; axis 0°., A round gold-colored coin set in a twisted gold-colored metal frame, showing a raised profile portrait of a man wearing an ornate crown and richly detailed clothing, with visible curly hair and decorative patterns on the garment; the coin surface is smooth with embossed edging and a ring of small decorative dots around the portrait, and the frame consists of a twisted ribbon-like chain in a similar gold hue; the overall colors visible are shades of gold and yellow.
