Teapot with lid, Koenigliche Porzellain Fabrique, Meissen (1710–1763); ca. 1750. Porcelain teapot with spherical belly tapering toward the base and flattened at the top; recessed flat lid with a pine-cone–shaped handle. Bipartite handle with plastic rocaille, mounted with volutes; zoomorphic spout with relief acanthus motifs and a wide-open spout-head. On both sides of the body are cartouche frames featuring purple draperies suspended from small bouquets of flowers and dry rocailles; brick-red draperies on the axis of symmetry. Within the cartouches are purple camaïeu miniature landscapes with architecture: (1) a building with a defensive wall; (2) half-timbered buildings with a tower and a three-span bridge. Small colorful ornamental plant motifs under the handle and spout, two woodcut flowers and two insects on the lid, and a small branch with a blue flower on the belly above the spout. Spout, handle, and edges of lid and spout are gilded. Paint chip near the bouquet of one cartouche. Dimensions: height 10.5 cm; width 19 cm; depth 9.5 cm.
