Pius VII (pope; 1740–1823) — portrait, male clergy, blessing; inscription at bottom: 'Pius Septimus RP Electus Anno 1800.' Composition in an oval with a dotted background, enclosed in a linear (dotted) frame. Series of stippled copperplate engravings (etched), height 9.9 cm, width 6.5 cm; after 1799, London. Historical notes depicted: Pius VII became a cardinal in 1785, took over the diocese of Imola, built churches, hospitals, and colleges, had relations with Polish legionnaires in Imola, was elected pope in 1800, concluded a concordat with France in 1801, participated in Napoleon's coronation in 1804, and reactivated the Jesuit Order on August 7, 1814. Possible association with Jesuit or other religious printing houses; probable authorship by John Alais.
