Saint Casimir. Figure of a standing saint with a cross and a lily in his hands, a biretta on his head, a crown and scepter at his feet; in the background on the left a castle on a hill, on the right Trzykrzyska Mountain. Casimir (1458–1484), born in Krakow, second of six sons of Casimir Jagiellon; his mother Elizabeth, daughter of Emperor Albert II Habsburg. Tutor Jan Dlugosz wrote: 'He was a noble youth, of rare abilities and a mind worthy of memory.' Casimir died in 1484 and was buried in the Chapel in Vilnius Cathedral. The image belongs to a series of graphic compositions depicting images that were objects of worship, mostly created by anonymous engravers, often in monastery engraving workshops. After 1800.
