(Saint John the Evangelist), Czerski, Stanislaw (1777–1833), graphic artist; John the Evangelist — iconography, devotional depiction: bust in a cloud holding a scroll, with attributes an eagle and a chalice with a snake; parts of the face and the cloud are stippled. Engraving made by Father Stanislaw Czerski in Salanty in Samogitia. “As a parish priest, with the help of a young assistant he adopted, he devoted himself to engraving images of saints with Samogitian inscriptions: because he only engraved these images for his parishioners, who, as inhabitants of pure Samogitia, do not know any other language. The above-mentioned plates, together with the press and all the tools for imprinting them, were transferred to Vilnius after his death.” Date: 1822–1832. Medium: graphic; graphic matrix/plate.
