Recto: the engraving depicts an apocryphal scene from the life of Saint Joseph Calasanz, who as a youth drove out a demon. Joseph Calasanz (Italian: José de Calasanz; born September 11, 1557 in the Calasanz Castle near Peralta de la Sal, Aragon; died August 25, 1648 in Rome) — Spanish Catholic priest, founder of the Piarist Order, educational reformer. Inscription at the bottom: 'S. Josephus Calasanctius puer necem malo daemoni parat.' The image belongs to a series of graphic compositions depicting images that were objects of worship, often made by anonymous engravers in monastery engraving workshops. Verso: text in German with dates: 1702, 1704, 1709. Text in engraved lines; fragment of a plate cut from a larger page of text. Date: 1748, Florence. Graphic matrix/plate.
