Peter of Amiens, Peter the Hermit, born ca. 1050, died 8 VII 1115, French itinerant preacher; organizer and 1096 leader of the People's Crusade (defeated by the Turks); he joined the knights' crusade, with which he reached Jerusalem in 1099. Illustration after Cesar Cantu's Universal History (1853–1857). Graphic print, steel engraving, height 13.6 cm, width 9.1 cm. Style of the engraving indicates a German author; matrices used were imported.
