A few men on a ladder and at the base of the cross are lowering a limp figure wrapped in cloth while others support and guide the body. A man wearing a long cloak and a turban-like head covering stands to the side holding a staff and watching. Several onlookers kneel or stand nearby, some with hands raised toward the central figures. Rays of light fall diagonally from the upper right toward the cross and figures, creating areas of brighter beige against darker brown surroundings. In the background there are indistinct architectural shapes and a low wall, and the ground in the foreground appears textured with drapery and uneven earth. The overall palette is shades of brown, beige, and dark sepia.
