Lithuanian grosz on a Polish foot, Sigismund II Augustus (King of Poland; 1544–1572). Polish coin (Grand Duchy of Lithuania), 1548. Obverse: Crowned male bust in armour turned right, separating the inscription in a half-circle at the top: SIGIS - AVG.REX; at the bottom horizontally in two lines: .POLO.MAG./ DVX.L. Reverse: Lithuanian Chase turned left; below, under the crown dividing the date 15 - 48, a tied monogram composed of the letters SA and the Columns of Gediminas coat of arms that divide the rim inscription: MONETA.MAGNI.DVCA.LITVA. Coin diameter approx. 22.8–23.2 mm; weight 1.74 g.
