Majnert's forgery of a crown thaler, Sigismund I the Old (King of Poland; 1506–1548), Majnert, Gotfryd (1767–1846); Obv.: bust of Sigismund I in a cap, crown and armor, turned right, inscription around the rim: SIGISMVNDVS.PRIM.REX.POLONIE 15 29; Reverse: Polish coat of arms under a crown surrounded by Sforza coats of arms, Ruthenia, Prussia and Lithuania, inscription around the rim: DEVS.IN.VIRTVTE.TVA.LETABITVR.REX; 1529 (false, made in 1836); Poland; coin; diameter 43.4 mm; weight 26.87 g, A circular metal coin with a worn, aged surface showing a central shield-like emblem topped by a crown and surrounded by several smaller shield shapes arranged around it; the coin’s rim is decorated with a beaded inner border and raised lettering along the outer edge that contrasts with the darker recessed background; the metal displays a mix of gray and silver tones with darker tarnished areas and a few greenish patina spots, and there is a visible hairline crack running across the coin from near the top toward the bottom.
