Crown trial thaler, engraved by Johann Kaspar Mörikofer (1738–1800) for Stanislaw August Poniatowski (King of Poland; reign 1764–1795). Obverse: Bust of Stanislaw August facing right in armor, wearing an ermine cloak and the Order of the White Eagle; around, divided at the bottom, inscription STANISLAVS.AVGVSTVS.DGREX.POLONIAE.MDL; continuous border. Reverse: Under a crown, a wreath entwined with a sash bearing the motto PRO FIDE - EGE - ET - GREG, a round five-field coat of arms with Poland (Orzel), Lithuania (Pogon) and the Poniatowski coat of arms (Ciolek); below on the sash the Order of the White Eagle; around, double-divided inscription TALERVS POLONICVS. - LXXXIV.FLOR.POL.MARCA. -; above the crown MDCC - LXVI; continuous border.
