Drachma, Ardashir I (ruler of Persia; 224–242). Obverse: Bust of the king wearing a crown with korymbos, face turned to the right. Legend in Middle Persian, transliterated as: mazdesn bay Ardaširšahan šah Eran ke cihr az yazdan — 'follower of (Ahura) Mazda, divine Ardashir, King of Kings of Iran, who descends from the gods.' Reverse: Fire altar. Inscription in Middle Persian. Sassanid art; Sassanid Kingdom; iconography: korymbos, crown, fire altar, busts. Date: 224–241. Persia (Iran).
