Medium/type: graphics., The image shows a detailed black-and-white engraving scene with a shoreline and a group of small boats and larger fanciful vessels in the water, some topped with architectural and shiplike structures; many human figures are depicted both in the water and on land, with some climbing ladders on a rocky cliff left of center and others gathered around a central small furnace-like structure near the water’s edge. On the right a bearded man reclines under a makeshift shelter of cloth supported by poles, surrounded by various overturned and broken objects and a few animal-like forms; the foreground contains scattered human bodies and a crouching figure attending one prone body. The central water area includes a large whale- or sea-monster-shaped hull with people aboard and smaller boats with oars and flags, while the distant background shows a rocky coastline, low hills, and streaked cloudy sky. The overall tones are monochrome black, white, and shades of gray.
