Sestertius; personifications; Alexander Severus Roman Emperor, 222–235 — iconography: Securitas. Obverse: IMP CAES M AVR SEV A ALEXANDER AVG. Bust of Alexander Severus in laurel wreath, armor and paludamentum facing right; pearl border. Reverse: PONTIF MAX TR P II COS ..; in exergue SC. Securitas seated left, holding a sceptre in his right hand and supporting his head with his left hand, left elbow resting on the back of the throne; to left a burning altar; pearl border. 223 CE. Roman Empire; Rome. Coin; diameter 27.5–29.0 mm; weight 19.87 g., A round, worn coin with a dark patina showing shades of brown, green, and black; the surface has uneven texture and faint raised relief depicting a seated human figure facing right on a chair or throne, with visible contours of a head, torso, and legs and draped clothing; the coin edge is irregular and slightly raised, and there are areas of lighter brown where metal shows through the darker greenish-black corrosion.
