Katagami dyeing stencil with a motif of stylized floral rosettes kawari kamon moyô, ise-katagami stencil, chuban format, geometric and plant patterns, Japan, 2nd half of the 19th century late Edo–Meiji, height 40.6 cm, width 24.8 cm., A dark brown rectangular background with a large horizontal black rectangle across the upper portion containing decorative white circular mandala-like patterns and several smaller white pinwheel motifs; the mandalas have petal shapes and concentric ring details, and a few of them are partially cut off by the top edge of the black area, while the lower portion of the brown background is mostly plain.
