Temple lantern, Japanese, Edo period 1603–1868, Man'en 1860–1861. Bronze lantern featuring dragons, a swastika motif, and monkey zodiac imagery. Lantern on a high, multi-segmented shaft with a large round base. Hexagonal roof decorated with dragons, pendants and bells at the edges, topped with a flaming pearl. Assembled from elements cast in bronze with relief and applied solid decorations. Dated 1860 Man'en 1, 9th month, Year of the Monkey. Varia; lamp. Weight: 54.0 kg; height: 184.0 cm., A tall ornate metal object stands against a plain light gray background, showing a dark bronze to greenish patina with areas of muted gold; the piece has a rounded base with decorative raised panels and sculpted relief motifs, a flared tier above with vertical ridges, a segmented column with bulbous contours, a ringed section with carved details, a perforated spherical middle section with an openwork lattice, a wider bowl-like element topped by a domed cap with curved flanges, a curled ornamental handle on one side, and a flame-like finial at the top.
