Vase, 19th century, India. Vase with a bulging, flattened belly tapering to the bottom; wide spout and round foot. Polychrome in red, pink, yellow, white and black. Decorated with jugs, gods, teachers, Vishnu, Shiva, fish, plant and geometric ornaments, and ascetics. Vessel, height 50.0 cm, diameter 13.0 cm, weight 5.75 kg., A rounded ornate vessel with a flared neck and a pedestal base, decorated with intricate painted scenes and floral motifs; the surface shows a combination of metallic brown and gold tones with prominent red areas and touches of black and green, with several circular medallions containing small figurative vignettes, bands of patterned ornament around the neck and foot, and leafy vine-like designs filling the spaces between the medallions.
