Feng shui compass luopan, Chinese, Qing 1644–1911, 19th century. San Yuan Luo Pan also known as yi pan or jiang pan containing the ring for the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching and a 24-direction ring; used by practitioners of the Three Cycles System of Feng Shui including Flying Stars Time Space. Materials/format: navigational/astrological measuring instrument compass, diameter 17.0 cm. Subjects/themes: astrology, calendars, Chinese Zodiac., A round, flat object viewed from above with concentric circular patterns and a central raised circular element resembling a glass-covered disk; the main surface is dark brown to black with a complex arrangement of thin lines and small markings in gold and occasional small areas of red, the outer rim showing a slightly worn edge with hints of reddish-brown, and the background is a uniform light gray.
