Pedestal for a writing set three-stage, colored porcelain, late 19th century, China; Qing style Qing, 1644–1911. Decorated with ceramics flowers, butterflies, landscape motifs and figural scenes; raised central part. Function: writing accessories. Dimensions: height 18.9 cm; width 17.9 cm; depth 11.0 cm., A small ceramic object with a stepped rectangular form sits against a gray background, predominantly white with painted decoration in colors including pink, green, blue, yellow, orange, brown, and black. The piece has a central circular opening near the top and a few round openings along the midline, and is supported by short feet. Painted panels on the front and sides depict several human figures wearing flowing robes in pink, green, blue, and red tones, scenes of people interacting, and a pair of roosters amid grass and flowers. Other panels show a landscape with trees and hills and decorative floral and butterfly motifs in pastel shades. The painted outlines and details are rendered in fine black and brown lines, and the glazed surface is glossy.
