Decoration on a blue background: large motifs of rose bushes and lilies, small flowers, two butterflies and a bird; iconography includes flowers, butterflies, roses, lilies, birds kachôga. Meiji period, ca. 1905–1908. Japan. Vessel. Height 30.7 cm; diameter 10.6 cm., A tall vase with a narrow neck and rounded body sits against a neutral gray background; the main surface is bright turquoise blue decorated with floral branches bearing pale pink and white blossoms and dark green leaves, a few thin reddish-brown branches, and a black and yellow butterfly and a green bird in flight; the rim and base borders are a textured reddish-brown with small floral motifs, and the interior near the rim shows a darker blue.
