Ding-type incense burner with cover, made by, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 18th/19th century. Bronze vessel censer, height 27.0 cm. Sides of burner and cover decorated with engraved plant ornament including plum trees, bamboos, pine trees, and other plants; iconography includes bats, lions fo, hares/rabbits, deer, cranes; motifs referencing yin and yang. Ceremonial/ritual vessel., A brass vessel with a rounded body and a pierced domed lid sits on a reflective surface against a plain light gray background; the vessel has a warm golden-bronze color with darker patina in places and subtle engraved decorative patterns on its body, a large looped handle rising from the lid topped by a small sculpted knob, and three curved legs each shaped with sculpted animal heads and paws that share the same golden-bronze tones.
