Brush vessel, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, early 20th century. Ceramic container with bas-relief decoration of figural scenes in a landscape and images of birds; reserves with varied shapes. Height 16.4 cm; diameter 11.9 cm., A cylindrical carved wooden container stands upright on a light surface against a gradient gray background; the wood is a warm brown with visible grain and slightly darker carved details, and the interior shows a paler brown. The cylinder features carved decorative panels including a fan-shaped motif with raised floral or leaf forms, a rectangular recessed panel with a carved natural scene, and openwork vertical sections with curved carved elements on the sides. The top rim has a carved band of repeating leaf-like shapes in a slightly darker brown, and there are vertical seams and subtle cracks in the wood near the base. The overall colors visible are shades of brown, pale brown inside, light gray of the surface, and medium gray to darker gray in the background.
