Vase tsubo, Japanese, ca. 1720–1740, Arita, Japan. Colored porcelain Imari, decorated with phoenixes, flowers, pine trees, plant and geometric ornaments. Vessel, height 28.5 cm., A rounded porcelain vase with a short neck sits against a plain gray background, decorated in a palette of red, blue, green, and cream with touches of brown and purple. The upper neck band features a red and blue patterned border with floral and scroll motifs, while the main body displays a large central bird with flowing red feathers surrounded by stylized flowers and leaves in green, purple, and blue. Heart-shaped cartouches and geometric panels in blue and red frame floral sprays and cloud-like forms, and the lower rim has a narrow decorative band in red. The glaze is glossy and the vase shows fine painted detailing throughout.
