Vase, Japanese, Meiji 1868–1912, ca. 1870–1880; colored porcelain with cloisonné enamel; decorated with insects and butterflies, floral decorations and geometric ornaments; Nagoya, Japan; vessel; height 39.5 cm, diameter 20.5 cm., A narrow-necked ceramic vase with a bulbous body standing against a plain gray background, decorated overall with a cream-colored ground patterned with a network of fine black floral sprigs and dotted details, containing a patchwork of shaped panels and roundels in colors including blue, green, yellow, red, and pink, each panel containing floral and butterfly motifs and small decorative elements, the neck bordered at the rim by a band of red and green geometric motifs and a thin brown lip, the lower body set above a wide blue band with stylized vine decoration and a white foot rim with blue accents.
