Helmet, creator unknown, Turkish, Ottoman dynasty 1299–1922, 16th century. Ottoman militaria headgear with movable cheekpieces and a nosepiece passing through the browband. Fluted bell. Browband and cheekpieces connected with copper rivets; neckpiece additionally with brass hinges. Materials: metal; weight 1.92 kg; height 39.0 cm, width 37.0 cm, depth 24.0 cm., A conical metal helmet with a pointed top and flared base, shown in shades of silver and gray with visible vertical ribbed patterns on the dome; the helmet has attached overlapping neck and cheek guards with rounded edges and a few decorative raised ridges, all secured by several round copper-colored rivets; a narrow metal bar curves downward at one side and a small hinged clasp with a brass-toned plate is visible on the other side, and the surface shows areas of slight wear and subtle darkening.
