Vase, Chinese, Qing dynasty Kangxi period, 1662–1722. Ovoid blue-and-white porcelain vase with a flaring cup-shaped mouth; height 25.5 cm, diameter 11.1 cm. Shoulders bear two applied mascarons with wheel motifs. Underglaze cobalt decoration includes figural scenes in two quatrefoil reserves and a background of plant ornament with small leaves, large floral rosettes, lotus tendril ornament, fans, and lotuses. Signed., A tall porcelain vase with a flared rim sits against a plain light gray background, decorated in blue on white with intricate floral and scrolling patterns; the body shows oval panels containing figures in traditional dress, and there are stylized floral medallions and vine-like motifs covering much of the surface; a small sculpted ring handle set in a mask-like mount appears on the neck; visible colors include white, several shades of blue, and the neutral gray of the background.
