Basket. Octagonal shallow wooden basket with an ivory rim and handle. Inside the basket is a relief scene: in the central field a palace surrounded by rich vegetation, at the foot of which a wild, spotted animal leopard? tiger? dog? strolls. A trail of stars is carved around this scene. The side panels alternate with images of the same animal and flowers; spaces between panels are filled with colorful mosaic tiles. Handle and rim are ivory. Served both utilitarian and decorative purposes. 19th century, India; height 14.0 cm, width 24.0 cm; floral and animal ornamentation., A shallow, octagonal wooden basket with a thin, curved pale yellow handle rising above it, showing carved decorative panels inside the sloping sides; the basket displays natural wood tones, pale beige, light brown, dark brown, and black accents, and rests on small round feet casting soft shadows on a light gray surface beneath a gradient gray background.
