Cantonese vase, Canton China, 19th century. Colored porcelain ovoid vessel with thin neck and two side handles; rib with an upwardly curled edge and plastically separated foot. Thick gray-bodied porcelain with white glaze tinged gray. Decoration in overglaze enamel paints two shades of green, blue, yellow, red, pink, black, overglaze iron red and gilding. Two reserves on body and neck each with figural court scenes; backgrounds with flowers, birds, butterflies, and fruit; floral decorative motifs. Height 63 cm, diameter 28 cm., A tall porcelain vase with a flared rim and a narrow neck widening into a bulbous body stands against a dark background, decorated with ornate painted panels and floral motifs; the vase displays a palette of green, pink, blue, red, white, turquoise, and gold tones. A group of painted figures appears within framed scenes on the neck and main body, dressed in colorful robes and gathered around architectural elements, while a few floral sprays and scrolling foliage fill the spaces between panels. The vase has a pair of ornamental curled handles in pale blue on either side of the neck, patterned bands around the rim and base with stylized floral and geometric designs, and smaller decorative flowers and leaves scattered across the surface, all resting on a dark display surface.
