Decorated with underglaze cobalt painting: exterior shows a stylized composition of elaborate architecture, a human figure, and mountains, with an inscription in kanji in four columns. Interior undecorated, with a symbol carved into the glaze at the bottom. Base bears a signature Chenghua nian zhi — an imitation of a Chinese Ming Dynasty Chenghua reign mark. Glaze has a bluish tint from cobalt; rim secured with a narrow brass ring. Edo period 1603–1868; possibly 2nd half of the 17th century. Japan.
