Crossguard tsuba, Kaneie, school craftsman author. Oval tsuba with an irregular outline slightly merging into the shape of a quatrefoil mokkô, slightly marked edge uchi kaeshi, textured surface. Decorated in low relief with details inlaid with gold and cut into negative openwork. On both sides a similar motif of waterside reeds and a full moon emerging from behind the clouds. At the bottom, one hole udenuki ana. Signed. 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868. Japan; Fushimi, Yamashiro. Materials/subject: Japanese, moon iconography, weapons/melee weapons/swords/katana/sword crossguards/tsuba. Dimensions: height 7.7 cm; width 7.6 cm; depth 0.3 cm., A round, flat metal object with a weathered, rough surface in brown and rusty tones, featuring a central elongated vertical aperture and a few circular cutouts; the metal shows irregular texture and patina with small areas of darker brown and lighter grey, and there are a few tiny bright yellowish spots on the lower right area, along with subtle carved or incised lines and shallow reliefs near the top and bottom edges.
