Crossguard tsuba, Kaneie craftsman, Japanese, Edo period 1603–1868, 18th century. Tsuba in the shape of a quatrefoil mokkô gata with a slightly raised edge uchi kaeshi, textured surface ishime ji and ryôhitsu ana. Decorated in low relief hirabori with a landscape motif: a fisherman sitting on the water's edge under a cliff, moon emerging from behind distant hills; motifs include rocks, mokkô, bamboos, trees, mountains. Signed. Place of origin: Fushimi, Yamashiro, Japan. Materials/function: sword crossguard for katana. Dimensions: height 8.5 cm, width 7.8 cm, depth 0.4 cm., A round, flat metal object with an irregular edge and a weathered surface in shades of brown and dark gray, showing a few shallow depressions and scratches and small spots of gold-colored wear; it has a pair of rounded rectangular cutouts and a central slot, and sits against a smooth pale gray background.
