Crossguard tsuba, attributed to Kaneie craftsman/school. Tsuba in the shape of a quatrefoil mokkô gata with a slightly raised edge uchi kaeshi and ryôhitsu ana, textured surface ishime ji. Decorated in low relief hirabori with a landscape motif: a fisherman sitting on the water's edge under a cliff, moon emerging from behind distant hills; motifs include rocks, mokkô, bamboos, trees, mountains. Signed. 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868, Japan — Fushimi, Yamashiro. Materials/genre: Japanese sword crossguard tsuba. Dimensions: height 8.5 cm; width 7.8 cm; depth 0.4 cm., A roughly oval, slightly scalloped metal object with a textured, dimpled surface in shades of dark gray and muted silver sits against a pale gray background; it has three central openings with smooth edges and a vertical central cutout flanked by two rounded cutouts, and small brighter silver highlights along the rim and inside the cutouts; a few tiny gold-colored flecks are visible near one scalloped edge and another small pale spot is visible near the top, while subtle raised and indented areas form irregular, slightly shiny ridges across the surface.
