Crossguard tsuba, Kaneie craftsman, geese, sword crossguards, mokkô. Tsuba for a tachi sword. Quatrefoil shape mokkô gata with a slightly raised edge of the uchi kaeshi or ryôhitsu ana type. Decorated on the obverse with wild geese flying over a water's edge overgrown with reeds; on the reverse, sails of three boats at the top and fishing nets drying on the shore below. Gold-inlaid details. Signed. Early 19th century Edo period, 1603–1868. Fushimi, Yamashiro, Japan. Tsuba; height 10.9 cm, width 10.2 cm, depth 0.45 cm., A roughly square metal object with rounded lobed edges in dark gray and brown tones, showing a textured, weathered surface; three rounded cutouts near the center and a narrow central cutout create openings; a few stylized birds in lighter gray with small touches of yellow are depicted flying on the right side and upper area; near the lower edge a group of carved rock-like shapes in gray include small yellow highlights and a short sprig-like element; subtle variations in the metal show patches of rust-colored brown and lighter gray patina across the surface.
