Decoration on a yellow background: five lions—one larger with a ball and four smaller ones among flames. Yellow glaze, white in parts of the decoration; engraved decoration, painted with green and brown enamel paints. 19th century, China. Vessel. Height 32.0 cm; diameter 18.5 cm., A bulbous ceramic vessel with a long narrow neck sits against a dark gray background, the vessel painted a vivid yellow with flowing brown flame-like motifs; a stylized creature with a dark brown body and a textured green mane is depicted on the rounded body, standing over a pale circular object and surrounded by sinuous green tendrils, with highlights of white and small areas of lighter yellow on the base and shadowed white surface beneath.
