Crossguard tsuba, Tsuguhide. Oval tsuba tatemaru gata with a kaku mimi ko-niku type edge. Flat, forged from many layers, with two round holes udenuki ana, surface shaped like a tree trunk grain pattern mokume ji decoration. Signed. Note: the word kami lit. prince, lord is one of the titles used by tsuba masters and often included in signatures. Early 19th century, Japan, Ômi Eshu. Tsuba. Height 8.2 cm, width 7.7 cm, depth 0.4 cm., A round, flat object with a textured wood-like surface in shades of brown and dark brown sits against a neutral gray background; its center has a vertical, teardrop-shaped opening with rough, slightly darker edges and a few small carved notches nearby, and toward the lower edge there are a few circular holes; the surface shows flowing grain patterns and subtle variations of brown, dark brown, and hints of gray.
