Crossguard tsuba, Masayoshi. Round tsuba maru gata with a rectangular edge kaku mimi, decorated on both sides with an asymmetrically composed high relief—carved takabori and inlaid with copper and gold takazôgan—motif of a plump pumpkin fruit with decoratively twisting stems with leaves and flowers. Details made with gold inlay using the nunome technique. Signed. 1st half of the 19th century Edo period, 1603–1868. Japan; Inaba historical province. Tsuba. Height 8.0 cm, width 8.35 cm, depth 0.45 cm., A round dark brown metal disk with a slightly rough textured surface and a few areas of rust-toned brown, featuring three cutouts near the center including a narrow vertical shape and two rounded shapes, and a decorative relief of a flowering plant along the lower edge with a few gold-colored highlights on the buds and slender stems and leaves in darker brown tones against a neutral gray background.
