Openwork cover decorated with a floral tendril and topped with a komainu figure mythical beast. Meiji period 2nd half of the 19th century, Japan. Bronze? material unspecified. Height 13.8 cm, diameter 12.9 cm., A small rounded object with a dark greenish-black surface and areas of worn gold detailing sits on a reflective gray surface; it rests on three short conical legs that are gold and show signs of wear, and the underside displays several raised decorative medallions in gold with textured patterns, along with a small protruding knob near the edge.
