Bottle, Japanese, Edo 1603–1868, early 18th century. Porcelain vessel sake bottle, height 22.1 cm, diameter 12 cm. Decorated in the kakiemon style with a motif of the three friends of winter bamboo, plum, and pine; rock. Also features two borders with plant motifs and floral patterns on the neck., A tall, narrow-necked ceramic vase with a bulbous body sits against a neutral gray background; the vase is primarily white with painted decoration in blue, red, green, and orange. A band of red with floral motifs encircles the upper shoulder, and below it a dark blue, twisting tree-like form extends across the body, surrounded by clusters of orange and red blossoms and green leaves. Additional blue and red linear patterns decorate the base and neck, and areas of the glaze show fine crackling. The vase rests on a reflective surface that mirrors its base and some of the painted patterns.
