Bottle, Japanese, Edo 1603–1868, early 18th century. Porcelain sake bottle decorated in the kakiemon style with a motif of the three friends of winter bamboo, plum, and pine; rock. Also decorated with two borders with plant motifs and floral patterns on the neck. Materials: porcelain. Height 22.1 cm; diameter 12 cm., A rounded porcelain vase with a long narrow neck sits against a plain neutral background, predominantly white with decorative painted designs. The upper neck is mostly white with touches of blue near the shoulder and a thin band of brown around the rim. A red ornamental band encircles the shoulder, followed by a decorative scene on the body featuring dark blue branches and a group of reddish-orange blossoms with green leaves scattered along the branches. There are additional small green leaves and accents of brown on some flower centers. The base has bands of blue and red patterning and the vase rests on a reflective surface that shows a subtle mirrored outline. The visible colors include white, dark blue, red, reddish-orange, green, brown, and neutral gray in the background.
