Bottle, porcelain with painted bamboos, pines, plums and sake motifs in Imari palette, Three Friends of Winter imagery, Arita, Japan, ca. 1700–1730, height 22.3 cm, diameter 12.2 cm., A porcelain bottle-shaped vase with a long narrow neck and rounded body, predominantly white with decorative painted motifs in blue, red, orange, green, and gold; the neck shows blue floral patterns and small green leaves, the shoulder has a band of blue and orange floral ornament, the body features a landscape-like scene with blue rocks or stylized forms, branches and foliage in blue and red, clusters of orange and yellow flowers with green leaves, and scattered red starburst-like blooms, a decorative band of red leaf shapes around the base, and subtle crazing in the glaze visible across the surface.
