Crossguard tsuba, gift, Japanese, Edo period 1603–1868, 17th century. Round tsuba maru gata with slightly raised uchi kaeshi type edge and oval seppa dai. Dark patinated background highlighting the golden brass on the edge, around kôgai hitsuana and seppa dai. Relief decoration in colored enamels of a grape vine and a squirrel on both sides. Unsigned. Japan; tsuba; diameter 6.9 cm; thickness 0.5 cm., A round metal object with a raised oval opening in the center, decorated with floral and vine motifs in green, turquoise, yellow, brown, and gold tones; the metal shows areas of darker patina and bright brass edges, and the surface has textured, engraved patterns and small raised bead-like details.
