Crossguard tsuba, Japanese, Edo period 1603–1868, 17th century. Round tsuba maru-gata with slightly raised uchi-kaeshi type edge and oval seppa-dai. Dark patinated background highlighting golden brass on the edge, around kôgai hitsuana and seppa-dai. Relief decoration in colored enamels of a grape vine and a squirrel on both sides. Unsigned. Japan; diameter 6.9 cm, thickness 0.5 cm., A round metal object with a central elongated keyhole and a decorative irregular cutout, featuring raised floral and vine motifs and a small bird-like figure; the surface shows areas of gold-toned metal, dark brown or black patina, and turquoise-green and pale blue enamel accents, with touches of reddish and yellowish hues in some floral elements.
