Box with a lid. Oval, spheroidal box on a ring foot, divided halfway into container and lid. Cloisonné enamel with gilded metal reinforcing rings; interior filled with uniform turquoise enamel. Slightly convex bas-relief grayish jade plaque added to top of cover, depicting a fenghuang phoenix or peacock with a sun among clouds; sun is upper left, surrounded by a silk ribbon. Motifs and styling reference emblems from mandarin squares: peacock denoting third civilian rank, sun referring to imperial authority. Rounded sides of both container and lid decorated with multi-colored lotus tendril stripes on a turquoise ground. Exceptionally fine jade workmanship noted; early precursor cloisonné technique used semi-precious stones set in metal cells. 18th century, China. Height 8.2 cm; width 11.3 cm; diameter 12.2 cm. Creator, : Paderewski, Ignacy Jan 1860–1941., A shallow round bowl with a smooth glossy interior in shades of blue and turquoise, bordered by a worn metallic rim in gold tones; the exterior shows a patterned band with swirling motifs in blue, turquoise, green, red, and white set against a blue background and framed by additional gold-toned edges, all shown against a neutral gray background.
