Tin with a lid, 18th century, China. Cloisonné enamel on tin. Cylindrical tin with a wide plate-like collar extending beyond the vessel walls, slightly rising at the rim. Domed lid with a handle shaped as a decorative openwork relief: a dragon in clouds, head directed toward a pearl at the top. Exterior of the vessel box and collar decorated with a multicolored red, blue, green, yellow, white small-flowered ornament—branches with rosettes, buds, and leaves—on a turquoise background. Lid decorated with a lotus tendril of four geometrically arranged flowers and surrounding branches; a multi-petal rosette is centered under the metal handle, all on a turquoise ground. Bottom filled with a rich, multicolored composition evoking Buddhist symbols—a vajra and Dharma wheel forming the inner central rosette—with two-colored red and blue ribbons between the motifs. Interior of box and lid without enamel decoration; all interior elements gilded. Possible function: incense box. Height 7.7 cm; diameter 15.1 cm., A shallow circular metal bowl with a wide rim decorated in cloisonné-like floral patterns in blue, red, green, and black, and a smooth gold-toned inner basin showing some wear and dark spots; the outer edge and inner wall are gold-toned, and the background is a neutral gray.
