Tin with a lid;, Chinese, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period, 18th century. Cloisonné enamel on tin; cylindrical container with a wide plate-like collar extending beyond the vessel walls and slightly rising at the rim; domed lid with a decorative openwork knob depicting a dragon in clouds facing a pearl. Exterior box and collar decorated with multicolored red, blue, green, yellow, white small-flowered ornament — branches with rosettes, buds, and leaves — on a turquoise background. Lid decorated with a lotus tendril composed of four geometrically arranged flowers and surrounding branches; a multi-petal rosette centered beneath the metal handle, also on turquoise. Bottom filled with a rich multicolored composition of elements reminiscent of Buddhist symbols a vajra and Dharma wheel forming the central rosette with two-colored red and blue ribbons between the symbols. Interior of box and lid gilt without enamel. Possibly used as a ritual incense box. Height 7.7 cm; diameter 15.1 cm., A shallow round metal vessel with a wide flat rim and a recessed central bowl, the exterior rim and interior bowl showing a gold-colored metal finish, while the vertical side and the top of the rim are decorated with cloisonné-style enameling in a bright sky blue background featuring floral motifs in red, white, yellow, green, and dark blue outlined in dark metal; the piece shows areas of wear and slight tarnishing on the gold surfaces and subtle speckling across the blue enamel.
