Round box with a lid, cloisonné enamel, Chinese, Qing 1644–1911. Cylindrical, flattened in shape, on a separate ring foot, with a slightly convex lid. Entire surface decorated with multicolored lotus tendrils on a turquoise background. Lid shows three fruits—peach, pomegranate, and lemon—and accompanying bats, an auspicious motif interpreted as many happiness, long life, and many sons. Background composed of cloud motifs formed from bent wire. Interior storage section decorated with colorful medallions single, paired, or triple featuring various Chinese plant ornaments. Rounded edges of lid and storage section, lower edge of foot and bottom gilded. Bottom and entire interior covered with turquoise enamel. 19th century, China. Height 4.6 cm; diameter 9.8 cm., A rounded lidded container with a domed top, covered in a bright blue enamel decorated with a pattern of swirling cloud-like motifs traced in gold and accented with a few multicolored floral and bat-like shapes in red, green, purple, yellow, white, and blue, and a gold rim encircling the midsection and base; the background around the object is a muted gray.
