Brush vessel, cloisonné enamel, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 19th century, China. Decorated with dragons, clouds, waves/sea waves, claws, and meander ornament; turquoise interior. Function: brush vessel. Height 12.7 cm; diameter 9.8 cm., A cylindrical object with a glossy surface sits against a neutral gray background, decorated all over with a bright turquoise base and patterns in blue, white, red, gold, black, purple, and green; the decoration includes cloud-like motifs and flame shapes, stylized waves at the bottom, and a few serpent- or dragon-like figures with scaly bodies and flowing manes, all outlined and detailed in gold; a geometric gold band runs along the top and bottom edges, and the piece reflects softly on the surface beneath it.
