Vase, 19th century, China. Cloisonné enamel vessel on a foot with a neck, height 23.5 cm, diameter 9.3 cm. Decoration: fish and crabs on a turquoise background; archaizing inscription on the neck. Qing dynasty style; Chinese., A rounded vase with a flared neck and gold rim sits against a neutral gray background, the surface covered in a bright turquoise-blue ground with swirling wave patterns in darker blue lines. The main decoration shows a few stylized aquatic creatures including a black and gold fish with white and yellow fins, a red and white fish with yellow fins and a smiling face, and a vivid cobalt-blue crab with yellow details. Small green leaf-like motifs float among the waves. The neck area is decorated with vertical dark motifs on the same blue background and a narrow band of deep blue with a repeating geometric edge. The foot of the vase has a pale green band with interlocking wave-like scrolls and a gold base rim. Colors visible include turquoise-blue, deep blue, cobalt blue, black, gold, red, white, yellow, green, and pale green.
