Round cloisonné enamel plate, 19th century, China. Round plate with a flat bottom, without a distinct facet, with an arched rim, on a low foot arranged in a ring at the rim. The mirror is decorated with a tondo surrounded by a multicolored lotus tendril. The composition enclosed in the tondo depicts an insect cricket in motion, perching on a flowering plant jumping from one flower to another; the insect is located on the right side of the composition. Flowering plants dominate the entire image. The outer rim is filled with medallions depicting stylized Chinese symbols lotus, peach, surrounded by free-form projections of clouds. The underside of the bottom is covered with single-color turquoise enamel. Height 2 cm; diameter 14.7 cm., A shallow round dish with a raised rim sits centered against a pale gray background, the dish painted primarily in bright turquoise blue with a band of decorative motifs around the rim in colors including red, yellow, purple, black, and dark blue, and edged with a thin metallic gold rim; the dish has a metallic gold base visible beneath the painted band, and the surface beneath the dish shows a soft reflection of the same colors.
