Vase, creator, gift; Japanese art; Meiji period 1868–1912, ca. 1900; Japan. Cloisonné enamel vessel decorated with birds, dragons, and phoenixes. Height 19.3 cm, width 8.9 cm., A tall narrow-necked vase with a bulbous base stands against a plain gray background; the neck is predominantly black with a subtle textured pattern and a horizontal band of decorative panels in white, blue, red, and yellow, while the rounded body features ornate multicolored designs including deep green panels with golden dragon-like figures, red fields, blue and white geometric borders, and accents of yellow and turquoise, all resting on a small decorated foot with reddish-brown and gold tones and showing a reflection on the smooth surface beneath.
